Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure that every child has access to new underwear for each day of the week. Through our wholesale and manufacturing relationships, we purchase underwear for a fraction of retail prices, in the exact sizes needed. We then distribute it to children facing various hardships, like homelessness, domestic violence, and emergency crises.
Underwear provides a critical layer of support. Children are less likely to attend school or play outside if they don’t have underwear. When kids feel comfortable, they can maintain a strong focus on education, personal goals, and simply enjoy playtime with confidence. We urge you to join us in our mission to protect a child's dignity & confidence with their first layer.
Our Story
Like most people, the pandemic left an indelible mark on Catherine Maloy, the Executive Director of Cocotree Kids. She learned that there was a consistent need for clean underwear for kids in the state of Massachusetts, so she decided to help by collecting underwear with her neighbors and family. However, she soon realized that the need was much bigger and dire than her small collection could address. She left her job at Deloitte after 14 years to be with her two children (ages 10 and 7) and started Cocotree Kids in May 2021.
Since then, Cocotree Kids has collected and distributed 40,000 pairs of underwear to children in the Greater Boston area. This translates to a full week's worth of new underwear to roughly 5,700 kids. In 2023 we are slated to distribute 50,000 pairs!
When Catherine's daughter was a toddler, she loved Christmas trees because they made her happy, but she could only pronounce them as "Cocotrees." She started calling anything that made her happy, a "Cocotree!" Cocotree Kids was born out of wanting to make others feel happy too.
