At Roanchar Ranch Draft Horse Rescue, we step in where others turn away.

We rescue abused, neglected, and unwanted draft horses—often from communities where they’ve been worked until their bodies give out. Then we give them a second chance through rehabilitation, compassion, and, when possible, adoption.

It starts with a purchase—$550 to $750 to save a horse from being sent to slaughter.

Then comes the long road back:

✅ A strict refeeding program to avoid life-threatening complications

✅ Veterinary exams, bloodwork, deworming

✅ Medication and ongoing care as needed

Draft horses are truly gentle giants, with a loving nature and sweet disposition. They can do so much more than plow fields and pull carts. They make great trail partners and can do many disciplines like dressage and eventing. Roanchar Ranch Draft Horse Rescue was founded because we saw a need. We wanted the ability to help find loving homes for these majestic animals, and, if a home could not be found, the rescue would become a forever home. Our goal is to provide a refuge for draft horses. The focus is to rehabilitate, retrain, and re-home draft horses in slaughterhouses, feedlots auctions, or have been surrendered to the rescue. For those horses that are not adoptable, Roanchar Ranch Draft Horse Rescue will be their forever home.
